Abstract

The PED clause in Health Insurance causes as much worry as confusion in the minds of the insuring public. All stakeholders in the industry including the intermediaries plus the consumers use the vague clause to their advantage, and the end result is so much disconnect and credibility issues. This is one term that is reason for maximum number of claim rejections.

The article attempts to bring out areas of misperception among the insurers and consumers, maintaining the need to simplify the clause for improved understanding and interpretation.

Similar wording used in certain parts of world are discussed to show how the clause can be improved and to remove disconnects and reinforce faith on health insurance as a genuine tool for handling financial disasters from medical treatment.
